Product Description for BR16 Microwave Meter

Rapid detection of microwave radiation exposure

Microwave radiation is odourless and invisible but, depending on its intensity, not without danger in the long run. The high-frequency fields, colloquially known as electrosmog, can propagate in waves from the source of radiation, but they can also interfere with the functionality of other electrical devices and affect the human body. Electromagnetic radiation penetrates thin walls, conventional windows as well as roof tiles and the body reacts to these fields like an antenna.

The BR16 radiation meter from Trotec can be used to detect microwave emissions from all high frequency equipment operating in the 2.45 GHz ISM band. Ideal e.g. in the household or office.

Possible household appliances and installations using microwave radiation include:

  • older or leaking microwave ovens in the kitchen
  • Transmitter masts and some mobile phone networks
  • wireless video transmission systems
  • Radio transmitters and remote controls
  • Bluetooth devices
  • WLAN router and WLAN amplifier

The hand-held measuring instrument BR16 detects sources of interference and leakage radiation

As long as the valid limit values and safety measures are observed, microwaves are actually harmless. Damaged devices with defective shielding, on the other hand, can become a source of danger and sometimes exhibit leakage radiation that is harmful to health. In addition, various microwave devices become sources of interference due to unfavourable positioning in the household and influence the performance of the WLAN or other wireless connections, for example. Whether it is a leaking microwave oven, WLAN router, mobile phone or transmission mast - the compact and 150 g light BR16 hand-held measuring device reliably detects harmful or interfering microwave radiation in the measuring range from 0 to 9.99 mW/cm² (frequency 2.45 GHz) and checks manufacturer's specifications on the maximum power density of devices with microwave radiation.

Electrosmog in cars: on-board electronics, heated seats and hands-free kits

Even in the car, additional extras such as seat heating and Bluetooth hands-free equipment generate high-frequency radiation. Since the metal body prevents any dissipation to the outside, the radiation sources are reflected inside the car, which leads to increased radiation exposure.

Measure and have certainty: The BR16 warns you of dangerous radiation sources

If the measured value is above the ICNIRP maximum limit of 5 mW/cm², the BR16 radiation meter automatically warns the user by a combination of beep and red flashing LED below the display. This makes it just as easy to detect sources of excessive radiation as it is to detect sources of interference that cause technical problems in the home or workplace.

Quick and easy radiation measurement

The microwave radiation measuring instrument BR16 is equipped with everything necessary to detect exceeding of limit values in radiation emission, sources of interference or unfavourable placement of devices with microwave technology in the measuring range from 0 to 9.99 mW/cm² (frequency: 2.45 GHz). The entire device is operated in a user-friendly manner using only three operating keys.

Backlit digital display

The measured value and the selected measuring unit are displayed on the large and easy to read LCD monochrome display. The optionally switchable backlighting allows a clear view of the measured values displayed in large digits even in poor lighting conditions.

Maximum value and hold function

With the maximum value function, which can be activated as required, the largest measured radiation value to date is displayed instead of the current measured value. Thus, increasing radiation emissions can be detected at an early stage within the scope of a measurement series.

Automatic calibration

In order to always determine unadulterated measurement results, the BR16 radiation measuring device has an automatic calibration. This starts at the push of a button and after only 3 seconds the BR16 is ready for use.

Alarm when limit value is exceeded

If the microwave radiation limit of 5 mW/cm² is exceeded, the red LED embedded in the housing flashes and a beep signal sounds.

Battery operation

The wireless measuring device is operated with a 9 V block battery which is already included in the scope of delivery.

Well protected and always ready to hand

The belt pouch included in the set is practical and offers optimal protection.

1/4'' thread for use with a tripod

The BR16 can be mounted on an optionally available tripod with its 1/4" thread on the back. This allows the microwave radiation meter to be positioned exactly on the spot, e.g. to carry out long-term measurements without having to hold the device permanently in the hand.

Automatic switch-off

When not in use, the hand-held meter switches itself off after approx. 15 minutes in a power-saving and convenient manner.

Scope of delivery:

1 x Microwave radiation meter BR16
1 x Protective bag with zip and belt loop

With the microwave indicator BR16 of the MultiMeasure series, harmful and interfering microwave radiation in the range from 0 to 9.99 mW/cm² (frequency range 2.45 GHz) and its source can be quickly and easily located.

Worth knowing about EMF radiation:

Most countries in the world base their limit value determinations in the high-frequency range on the recommendations of the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). This also applies to Germany. The current ICNIRP limit value recommendations vary depending on the application and are between 0.2 and 5 mW/cm². For example, the permissible emission limit for kitchen microwave ovens according to DIN EN 60335-2-90 is 5 mW/cm², whereas the current limit for UMTS frequencies in Germany according to the Federal Immission Control Regulation 26 (BlmSchV) is approx. 1 mW/cm². Values above a limit of 5 mW/cm² are unanimously classified as harmful to health.
